Local, not cross-border
ExpandNow is the seller inside the market, so each sale is a domestic one, with local payment methods and local tax handled by a local seller.
Most brands weigh the same few ways into a new market: set up their own entity, sign a distributor, or keep shipping in from abroad. Each one costs something, whether time, margin, control or the channel itself. ExpandNow becomes the local seller behind your sales instead, so you can enter a market without building a company there or handing over your brand.
What each route asks of you, side by side.
| Route | Who sells to the customer | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| Your own local entity | You, through a new local company | Months of incorporation, banking and registrations before the first sale, then fixed running costs whether the market works or not. |
| A distributor | The distributor | Your margin, and control of pricing and the customer relationship, which sit with them. |
| Shipping in from abroad | You, from your home market | Cross-border duties and delivery times, and no way into channels that need a local seller, such as TikTok Shop. |
| ExpandNow | ExpandNow, as the local Merchant of Record | A fee per sale at published rates. You keep the brand, the product and the customer. |
ExpandNow is the seller inside the market, so each sale is a domestic one, with local payment methods and local tax handled by a local seller.
The same operating layer sits behind your own store, B2B sales, TikTok Shop and marketplaces, so adding a channel doesn’t mean another set of registrations. Marketplace availability is confirmed for your category during scoping.
Connect works behind Shopify, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WooCommerce, Magento, Shopware and any other major ecommerce platforms. Nextbase kept BigCommerce and was selling in Europe one week after implementation.
You keep the product, the brand, the marketing and the customer relationship, and ExpandNow takes the transaction responsibilities. Meroda kept control of its brand and commercial strategy and reached £500K GMV in its first 100 days on TikTok Shop UK.
Connect is 5% per sale and Commerce starts at 5% when ExpandNow takes the payment. When a marketplace such as TikTok Shop does, it’s 2.5%.
ExpandNow calculates, collects, files and remits sales tax and VAT, pays out daily, and Connect and Commerce include zero fraud chargeback liability, subject to your service agreement.
If a market is strategically permanent and your volume justifies owning the infrastructure, your own entity can be the better long-term answer, and some operations need local contracts, licenses or structures a Merchant of Record doesn’t provide. You can also start with ExpandNow, prove the market with real sales, and decide on an entity later with evidence rather than a forecast.
